Age 28: Meeting a girl from Moscow in St. Petersburg

At 28 I was already living in Tallinn, but I still occasionally checked asexual forums and groups — just in case something new appeared. One day a girl from Moscow wrote to me in one of them: also asexual, also looking for a close person without sex and everything that usually comes with relationships.
We started chatting. At first casually, then more and more often. The correspondence lasted a couple of months: we talked about everything and nothing. She shared how tired she was of pretending in “normal” relationships and never feeling quite right. I admitted that I was already exhausted living every day alone, without someone close.Suddenly we thought: “Why don’t we meet in St. Petersburg for the weekend?” I’d come from Tallinn, she from Moscow. And we agreed. It was my first real-life meeting after the failed one in Tallinn.
I arrived by bus, she by train. We decided to meet in a small café right next to the station. I remember walking there, nervous, peeking into windows to see her for the first time. When I did — I recognised her instantly. We sat for a bit, caught our breath after the journey, and then the real adventure began.
She had a whole two-day programme planned — a proper big quest. We visited tons of places: parks, squares, cathedrals, the cruiser Aurora, even rode the metro to random neighbourhoods just for fun. We walked until late evening. And the most important thing — it was my birthday that weekend. I spent it with a person I was seeing for the first time in my life. She gave me a postcard with very warm and sincere wishes — I still keep it.
She was quite energetic: taking photos, telling stories about the places, joking, pulling me by the hand saying “come on, let’s go there!” and even inviting me to karaoke. Being a total shy guy, I naturally refused. At first I just followed her like a puppy on a leash, but gradually I got into it. It wasn’t exactly easy for me, but it was incredibly interesting and genuinely exciting.
The brightest memory — a quest in complete darkness. We experienced what it’s like to be blind: walked along “streets” with curbs and crossings, navigated by smell and touch. It was my first time trying anything like that, and it was unbelievably cool.
The two days flew by. We stayed in a hotel — I booked two separate rooms, and every evening we went to our own.
She lived in Moscow, I in Tallinn. Moving was never even discussed. It was simply a very warm, friendly meeting and a pleasant real-life acquaintance. No expectations, no pressure. We met a couple more times afterwards (she came to Tallinn), but that’s already a different story — I’ll tell it later.
The main things I realised:
• I really can feel comfortable and warm with another person,
• I’m capable of genuine friendship and even taking initiative,
• but hundreds of kilometres and rare meetings are definitely not for me.It was after this trip that I clearly understood for the first time: I need someone here — in Tallinn or at least a couple of hours away.
